English interest in the Internacional Sporta Open in Guatemala ended last night as Yorkshire’s Chris Simpson and Nottinghamshire’s Eddie Charlton bowed out of the $35,000 PSA Tour event at the quarter-final stage.
The unseeded Charlton was unable to repeat his heroics of the night before, when he stunned top seed Marwan Elshorbagy, while third seed Simpson (pictured) was the victim of a surprise four-game defeat to sixth-seeded Mexican Cesar Salazar.
Charlton tweeted after his 11-8, 11-6, 11-8 defeat: “Didn’t play as well as I needed to and he was sharp. Great time in Guatemala with amazing support from the crowd.”
Meanwhile, Simpson tweeted after his 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10 reversal, his first to the Mexican: “3/1 loss to Caesar Salazar tonight to end a disappointing second half of the season.”
