After the completion of the first rounds, the men’s and women’s events are both at the same stage, with half of each round two matches played today at the Airco Arena – top half of the men’s draw and bottom half of the women’s.

While they mostly went to seeding, there was a big upset in the women’s draw as Malaysian qualifier Delia Arnold put out 11th seed Annie Au, while in the men’s matches the best was saved to last as top seed and world #1 Mohamed Elshorbagy just about survived a ferocious challenge from Spain#s Borja Golan. For the home crowd Nick Matthew kept his hopes of a fourth British Open title alive, coming from a game down to beat young Frenchman Gregoire Marche.
